Use a DMM and find out which whire is controled by the rheostat. Thats what i did, and it works fine(4 years and still going). For ground, splice all the wires together and use an existing mounting screw or a new self tapping screw and secure the ground to the frame(the stereo bracket actually has a stud to use a nut with a star washer) Just remember the ground must be 100% or you will have major problems.
