Default ACT Relocation?

Is there any performance gains to relocating the ACT sensor? I have heard people say that relocating it to the intake tube gives a better reading of the actual air temp than being in the intake manifold where it is a lot warmer. Any truth to this? It kind of makes sense, but you would think that the factory would account for the extra heat in the manifold.
