The HP gained is usually in the upper RPM's...with an open exhaust. Since 4.6's have a mild compression ratio, back pressure is needed to have a complete burn within the cylinder, if you were running 10:5 compression or higher...back pressure has a minimal effect...in my experience. (I am no expert)...
