If youre going to go that route, I would say remove the entire box, and fab a (nice looking ) panel to fit just inside the door. Mount the head into in that, it'll look cleaner and not have that half a$$ed apperance. You'll loose the storage space, but its a small sacrafice.
 Personally, i would have gone with an aftermarket "stock"er with the cd hookup. Its easier to hide things in the trunk than the dash. But to each their own,  Just my .02 J
