IMHO that sounds like an "RPM" game. Big Blocks aren't gonna like that. Get the tires hummin', get your right foot past the carb and into the water pump, and hold on!
Have you considered dropping "down" to a 393" Windsor, or a 408" 302? That is NOT big block territory, and even though it's small block inches, when doing this kinda stuff ya need to think of the Cleveland as a "big block". IMHO there has never been a better suited motorsport for the 393" Windsor, than what you are describing. We're building a "junkyard" 393, that sounds right up your alley. I'll let you in on it via PM if you're interested.
