Mine always does that. Headers in close proximity to the starter just makes it worse. I use AutoZone Duralast starters with the lifetime waranty. They last me about 2 years. They always give me a new one though so all I'm out is the labor which doesn't amount to much.

I'm sure you can get better starters which last longer. I guess I'm just too much of a cheapskate as long as they will continue to give me new ones under that warranty. I think I paid $30 for the first one about 10 years ago. I must be on number 4 or 5 by now, LOL.
