My dad (the machinist) finally made the knob. It's a 4" tall and 1.5" thick slug! It feels real good to shift with. I took a few pics using my (cheesy) webcam, but you can see what it looks like. Seeing how it gets real cold (it's a solid aluminum piece, with a steel thread piece), I found a foam/rubber material from a mini gardening shovel handle and it fit perfectly (and it's got a good grip too). I'm gonna find a way to get it painted yellow real soon.
