![]() When I my my teardown I plan on replacing my starter. the starter I have came with the car before I dropped the engine in and it apprears to be one of those high torque mini-starters. That's all good and everything but when I run the car for a while the thing won't start until everything is cooled down. I even tried some of Summit's heat wrap crap. Didn't work. Anyway, can someone recommend a decent starter?

![]() If the starter was already experiencing problems, adding the heat wrap won't help. I would recommend an OEM replacement with the heat wrap applied. You can spend more on others, but I don't think it's necessary. For the best results, buy a new one from Ford, rather than a rebuilt one from someone else. A new one will cost more than a rebuilt, but it will last longer, too.
Take care, -Chris

![]() Thanks Chris. I don't know the condition of the starter when it was given to me. The dud just handed it to me along with the Fuel system. It probably was not working right when I got it. I'll swap it for a new one and hopefully that'll solve my problem.

![]() Hmmm.....and I just swapped that big bulky starter out of my '82GT for one of those mini high torque units because of the same reason. I think you have a bad starter.
