I believe that it should be EARNED. Having only 500 posts is something that can be done in a fairly short amount of time. This all depends on how bad of a post ***** you are or not.
 Anyways, I think Dan set it to a number like 1,000 or 1,500 to make it harder to attain. Therefore the titles would be something to look forward to (as a rite).
