An exhaust leak wouldn't slow down the car that much, especially at higher rpms. I know my car lost a lot of power and wouldn't rev over 4500rpm or so when I had a damaged cat that plugged itself. Might want to check your cats since this seems to coincide with playing with the H-pipes.
