I had a very similar episode with my 88 a few months ago. It's the fuel pump relay as mentioned above. Mine would cut out intermittently. A few minutes later, it would work fine again. Sometimes it worked for a day, and sometimes it worked for a few minutes, but it would cut out again when it felt like it.
Replace the relay, and I'm sure it will go away.
