Not all head bolts are torque to yield. I believe factory bolts are not, but I may be mistaken. I do know that I recently purchased a set of cheapo head bolts for my T-Bird from autozone and they are torque to yield so if you bought these new check to see if you can find out from the company if they are torque to yield. If they're not, clean them with some B12 chemtool or other cleaner and a wirebrush and bolt em up. I reused the head bolts on my cougar and didn't even clean them, it ran like a bat out of hell and never had any problems with head gaskets. Main thing is to make sure that you get an accurate torque reading so if the threads look all fubar might want to get a new set.
