![]() I've been running 10W30 Mobil 1 synthetic since the break-in period ended. At 50,000 hard miles, she's holding great....
As far as the ping... Is it coming from the engine compartment? Is it coming from the engine block? Is it present at idle? Does it start at a specific RPM? Is the computer throwing any codes? The mod motors sound a bit different from our tried and true 5.0s. But I would definately check it out... ------------------ "The Yellowjacket" 381.8 rwhp 377.6 rwtq "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." ![]() say hammer the sound comes anytime you put your foot on the gas say just cruising around 1500 to 2300 rpm no codes went off sounds like valves tapping sure is a lot diffrent than the 5.0 my 87 used to kick so serios *** but she had to put to rest now i hopping to make the new breed just as bad

![]() Amsoil has a 5-20 synthetic if you decide to stick with that weight.

![]() Hmmm, I guess it could be the valves...
Are you sure its not a bit of detonation? I would take it to another dealership and have someone else take a look, as a noise like that isn't normal as far as I know... ------------------ "The Yellowjacket" 381.8 rwhp 377.6 rwtq "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." |

![]() Just for giggles, reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes... Then give it a shot...

![]() My g/f's V6 had something that sounded like pinging from the engine. When she took it in, they said said there was a leak at/in the exhaust manifold. I'm not sure what they did (she couldn't repeat what the dealer told her), but when she got it back, it was fixed.
if the dealer can't find it on your car, take it to another dealer. Some/all dealers will also have small microphones they can attach to different points in the car to determine where the noise is coming from. Also, I run 5/30 Mobil 1 synthetic in my 98 GT and she's be beautiful for her 75k miles so far. (knock on wood!) Good luck |

![]() Just a thought, when I use castrol syntec, my valves are a bit noisy..so I switched back to mobil 1, quiet again. When I use Citgo gas a slight ping occurrs, switched back to Amoco gas, problem solved.
